Remember the zany, gory, incomparable 2006 film Pan’s Labyrinth? That movie had it all: monsters, fantastic settings and costumes, plus a meaningful political undercurrent. Head to the Art Gallery of Toronto, which is exhibiting work that attempts to unlock the mind of director Guillermo del Toro.

Throughout Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters, explore del Toro’s personal collection of art, artifacts, books, and props that he keeps at his Los Angeles home, Bleak House. You’ll see mannequins that resemble Frankenstein’s monster and his bride, The Faun from Pan’s Labyrinth, and walls decked out with del Toro’s comic collection. A wonderfully eerie, red motif pervades the show. Once you finish your walkthrough, perhaps you’ll even have your own ideas for a couple screenplays.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the museum is screening del Toro’s films. Click here for details.
